Personal Statement #1 (W.3)

Directions: You will be writing a series of responses to personal statement questions. Each response must be 400-600 words. Please write these as if they were your final copies that you would be submitting to a college or a job. This means they need to be error proof and you should reread them prior to submitting.  Each response will be valued at 25pts. Below are the prompts:

1. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?

2. Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?

3. Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?

4. Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

For essay #1, choose whichever prompt you like best.

Be sure to cite examples from the film (The 13th Warrior) and evidence from the text (Beowulf) to support your answer.  This is a checkpoint, and I expect a THOROUGH response of at least two paragraphs for each question.

RL.1 - Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.
