Do you agree or disagree with the following statements? Why or why not? Choose one to explore more fully in a 5-6 minute freewrite. If I am reading something and come across a word that I don’t know or a phrase that I don’t understand, I usually give up and assume that it is too hard for me. I have a few different ways to understand what a word means in a text if I don’t already know it. I can read a text and still get what I need to know even if I don’t understand every single word. If I get frustrated reading, I deflect that feeling onto something else, calling what I am reading stupid or boring. When I am reading something that is not easy, I will take the time to make sure that I fully understand what I am reading, even if I need way more time than the student sitting next to me.

What did you learn about the genre from listening to others' arguments? (Were you convinced? Would the intended audience have been convinced? Was the position presented with the audience's values in mind?) 2. What did you learn about the genre from presenting your group's position? (What was easiest and hardest about presenting your position?)
